Vienna Hotel Shenzhen: My Shenanigans on Fenghuang Road (and Why You Should Probably Book!)

Okay, buckle up buttercups, because I just got back from a whirlwhind stay at the Vienna Hotel Shenzhen on Fenghuang Road, and let me tell you, it was an experience. Forget the polished brochures, you’re getting the real, unfiltered truth. Consider this a review, a therapy session, and a mild public service announcement all rolled into one.

First things first: Accessibility. Now, I’m not personally in a wheelchair, but I did notice the hotel seemed pretty good on this front. Elevators were plentiful (essential, honestly), and I think I saw accessible rooms. (Honestly, I was more focused on stuffing my face at the breakfast buffet, but more on that later…). I couldn’t scrutinize the hotel's physical infrastructure in terms of wheelchair friendliness, as I did not need the assistance.

On-site accessible restaurants & lounges: Again, can't personally confirm, but pretty standard, you'll have to ask the hotel itself.

Internet Access: This is a must for me. I needed to update my Instagram with all the glamorous shots I took, and to stay in touch with this whole pandemic situation, and the Free Wi-Fi in all rooms! was an absolute lifesaver. Connection was pretty solid, even when I was trying to stream something, which, let's be honest, was most of the time. And yes, there's also Internet [LAN] if you’re into that… which, let’s be honest, who even uses LAN anymore? Though some of the rooms seemed pretty ancient. But that's part of the charm right?

Speaking of charm… the Things to do, ways to relax were plentiful. I mean, they had a Fitness center. I walked past it. Twice. Didn’t go in. Judge me all you want. They also had a Sauna, Spa, Spa/sauna, Steamroom, and a Swimming pool [outdoor]. The thought of luxuriating in a sauna after a long day of… well, mostly eating, did appeal to me. But, well, I was already very relaxed on the bed in my room watching TV. There’s something about a hotel bed, isn't there? That is just so inviting. They have a Massage service which is another thing altogether, and I really wasn't up for people touching me.

Now for the really good stuff: Dining, drinking, and snacking. Okay, so the Breakfast [buffet] at the Vienna Hotel Shenzhen is legendary. I repeat, legendary. I'm not exaggerating. They had everything! Asian breakfast, Western breakfast, fresh fruit, pastries, more pastries, dim sum, noodles… Honestly, I think I gained five pounds just looking at it. They have Asian cuisine in restaurant, International cuisine in restaurant, both were delicious, I can attest to it. There was even a Vegetarian restaurant I think, though I had no time for that! They had a Coffee shop which was well-stocked. There was also a Poolside bar, but honestly, I was more interested in the buffet. Honestly, for some reason, I just couldn't bring myself to go. I think I just got a little lazy. The Snack bar was a nice bonus too. And, of course, Room service [24-hour]. Because, who doesn’t want a midnight snack of questionable quality?

On a side note, I did have a minor disagreement with the Anti-viral cleaning products. Look, I get that things need to be clean, but sometimes these scents from the cleaning products can be a little too strong, they can irritate my allergies, and I did notice them at first.

And oh yeah, Cleanliness and safety: They were serious about this. Daily disinfection in common areas. Room sanitization between stays. Staff trained in safety protocol. Hand sanitizer everywhere. Feeling safe was a big deal. I never felt like I was worried about my health.

Rooms: Right, the rooms! The Additional toilet was a godsend, considering the amount of food I was consuming. The Blackout curtains were amazing – perfect for sleeping in! The Complimentary tea was a nice touch. The Desk, the Free bottled water, the Hair dryer, the In-room safe box, the Mini bar, the Refrigerator, the Satellite/cable channels, all the essentials. I am a sucker for a Sofa and an extra long bed, with some Soundproofing, a clean, spacious setup. I really enjoyed just relaxing in the room. They need to have a Room decorations feature where you can have more decorative items on the walls. It can make the room feel even more elegant.

And here is a small tip, they could make a guide for the rooms so you can find the items you need, and what the rooms offer, I was looking for the Ironing facilities for a bit, and couldn't find it. But the room was still excellent.

Services and conveniences: The Air conditioning in public areas was a lifesaver in the Shenzhen heat. Concierge was helpful. Daily housekeeping kept my room immaculate (and probably judged me for the state I left it in). I had to take some Laundry service: always useful. Luggage storage was a bonus. And the Elevator was nice to use, because stair can be quite a workout. They had a laundry service, which was useful. And a convenience store, which I also looked at but didn't go there. So I went to the buffet instead.

Getting around: Car park [free of charge] was great. Don't quote me on it, but I think there was Airport transfer available. I arrived by taxi. Taxi service was readily available.

For the kids: Not really my scene, but I did spot Family/child friendly options, a Kids meal option.

Cashless payment was a huge bonus these days. Really keeps things speedy at check out.

In conclusion:

The Vienna Hotel Shenzhen is a solid choice. It’s not perfect, nothing ever is. But what it is is comfortable, convenient, and packed with amenities. The staff are friendly and helpful. It's a great place to base yourself whilst exploring Shenzhen.

The Quirks:

  • Bathroom Phone: Who uses these anymore? But hey, it’s there.
  • Alarm Clock: Now, if I could only teach myself not to press snooze 29 times…
  • Minor imperfection: They needed to improve the WiFi in the common areas.

Vienna Hotel Shenzhen Fenghuang Road Shenzhen China

Okay, buckle up, buttercups! This isn't your pristine, perfectly-planned itinerary. This is a WARPED and slightly-too-much-caffeine-fueled descent into my trip to the Vienna Hotel Shenzhen Fenghuang Road. Prepare for chaos.

Vienna Hotel Shenzhen: My Shenzhen Shenanigans (A Very Real Itinerary - Probably)

Day 1: Arrival and Complete Discombobulation

  • Morning (or, like, noon): Land at Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport. The air is thick with humidity and the potential for delicious street food. First impression? My god, the crowds! I feel like a rogue ping pong ball bouncing in a pinball machine. Finding my luggage was a Herculean task. Someone should invent a luggage-finding app… Wait, is that a thing? (I'm already behind schedule.)

  • Afternoon: Taxi to the Vienna Hotel. Google Maps estimated 45 minutes. Reality? Closer to an hour and a half, thanks to what seemed like a massive traffic jam caused by… well, I have no idea. People, scooters, buses… a beautiful, chaotic web. The hotel itself, a gleaming tower, offered a welcome respite. Check-in was smooth – the staff were incredibly polite, which soothed my frazzled nerves. Room: clean, efficient, and equipped with more tech than I know what to do with. (I’m slightly terrified of these automated blinds. What if they trap me?)

  • Evening: Okay, food. Priority one. Wandered out, feeling utterly lost. Ended up in a bustling street market. Sensory overload: the sizzling of unknown meats, the pungent aroma of fermented tofu, the hawkers shouting… pure glorious mayhem. I pointed at something that looked vaguely edible (and had a promisingly spicy smell) and ended up devouring a plate of what I think was dumplings, doused in chili oil. My mouth is still burning, but my soul is fed. This is what I needed.

    • Anecdote: Tried to barter for a pair of knock-off sunglasses. My Mandarin is non-existent, and the vendor just laughed. "Foreigner price!" he declared, clearly enjoying my struggle. Bought them anyway. They're hideous, but they’re a souvenir.
  • Night: collapsed onto hotel bed, exhaustion and spice taking over. Sleep. That's the plan, anyway.

Day 2: Cultural Immersion (and Existential Dread)

  • Morning: Attempted to visit the Window of the World theme park. BIG MISTAKE. Should have planned for transport, and maybe read the brochure. Got lost. Wandered around for an hour, eventually taking a cab (again, traffic!) to a small local park near the hotel. Much better choice. Found a serene pond with koi carp, and watched a group of elderly locals engaged in a very serious game of something that looked like Chinese checkers.
  • Afternoon: Decided to embrace the chaos in a different form. Found a nearby shopping mall, a monument to consumerism. Decided to get a massage. The massage itself was… intense. The strong hands of the masseuse kneaded out knots I didn't even know I had. So grateful.
  • Evening: Ate at a restaurant near the hotel. Ordered a dish. This time, I could describe it and what I wanted. I have made some progress. The food was delicious. I wanted to ask for more, but I had no idea how. I was a little sad about it. I will get better, eventually. Went back, got another massage, and fell asleep in my chair, while my masseuse was still talking. Now that is a luxury.

Day 3: Shenzhen's Seaside (or, My Personal Failure)

  • Morning: The plan was to take a bus to Dameisha Beach. The reality? Bus schedules make absolutely no sense to me. After an hour of futile attempts to decipher the route maps, I gave up. (I’m terrible at public transport, okay?!).
  • Afternoon: Hired a taxi to the beach anyway. Arrived at Dameisha. The sheer number of people! I'm not sure there was an inch of sand that wasn't occupied. The water looked… murky. I lasted all of 15 minutes. Didn't even wade in. The overwhelming noise and crowds triggered my anxiety. Defeated, I headed back to the hotel, feeling like a complete failure at being a tourist.
    • Emotional Reaction: I felt utterly deflated. Was I just not cut out for travel? Did I lack the resilience of the average backpacker? (Answer: Probably, and yes.)
  • Evening: Ordered room service (comfort food! And the relief of being alone). Watched some terrible Chinese reality TV show. Realized, it was okay. Not every day has to be perfect. I needed some downtime, even if it was spent in front of a glowing screen.

Day 4: Food Glorious Food (and a Touch of Redemption)

  • Morning: Explored the local area, again. Found a fantastic little bakery. The pastries were heavenly. The locals were friendly, and I could easily order what I wanted to. I felt a small spark of joy!
  • Afternoon: I decided to revisit an area of Shenzhen I'd liked. I was going to find one restaurant, and I was going to try something new. I did both. The food was so good. I think I'm actually a foodie!
  • Evening: More dumplings. More spice. Fell in love.

Day 5: Departure and Bitter-Sweetness

  • Morning: Last-minute souvenir shopping. Panic-bought way too many things I didn't need. (That's the souvenir spirit, right?) Farewell breakfast at the dumpling restaurant. One last satisfying meal.
  • Afternoon: Hotel check-out. The staff were so lovely again. Said goodbye. The taxi back to the airport; took a long time. The airport was crowded. After a bumpy flight, I was back at home, feeling a mixture of exhaustion, satisfaction, and a weird sort of sadness.
    • Quirky Observation: The sheer volume of people using their phones in the airport felt like observing an alien species at their primary habitat.

Overall Assessment:

Shenzhen? A whirlwind of sensory overload. The Vienna Hotel? A haven of comfort. Could I have done things better? Absolutely. Did I master the art of navigating public transport? No. Did I eat too much chili oil? Probably. But, did I have an experience, and, more importantly, did I survive? Yes. Would I do it again? Absolutely. Once I've recovered. And learned some Mandarin. And maybe developed a tolerance for crowds. And… Wait, where's that dumpling place again?

Vienna Hotel Shenzhen Fenghuang Road Shenzhen China

Vienna Hotel Shenzhen Fenghuang Road Shenzhen ChinaOkay, buckle up buttercups, because we're diving headfirst into a glorious, messy, and totally honest FAQ about… well, whatever the heck you want me to write about! (You didn't actually tell me the subject, so let's just assume it's… life. Yep, that covers everything.)

So, What Even Is This Thing Called "Life," Anyway? Seriously Though.

Oh, buddy, the million-dollar question! I've asked myself this probably a million times while scarfing down ice cream straight from the carton at 2 AM. And the answer? Well, it's… complicated.

It’s like that time I tried to bake a cake for my friend's birthday (disastrous, by the way – think charcoal brick), only to realize I’d forgotten the key ingredient: love. Or, you know, baking powder. It’s a chaotic mix of joy, heartbreak, questionable life choices (that karaoke night… *shudders*), and the constant search for the perfect cup of coffee. Is there a perfect cup? I'm still hunting, but I'm enjoying the research.

Look, I'm not gonna lie, it's messy. It's full of embarrassing moments, unexpected detours, and times you question everything. But that's also kind of the *best* part, right? It's what makes it interesting. Embrace the chaos, I say!

How Do You Deal With, Like, *Everything*? I'm Constantly Overwhelmed.

Oh, honey, I *feel* you. Overwhelm is my middle name. Right up there with "Procrastination" and "Snackaholic."

Honestly? I fake it 'til I make it… a lot. But seriously, I've found that breaking things down helps. Like, if my to-do list is a mile long, I pick *one* thing. Just one. And I celebrate the tiny victories. Finish a load of laundry? Victory dance! Answer one email? High five! It's the little things, you know?

Also, therapy. Seriously, therapy is amazing. It's like having a professional life sherpa guiding you through the emotional Himalayas. They also have snacks. Okay, maybe just in my therapist's office, but still. And deep breaths. Lots and lots of deep breaths. And sometimes, just straight-up hiding under the covers with a good book and a box of tissues. We all do it. Don't judge.

What's Something You've Learned the Hard Way? Spill the Tea!

Okay, this is my *jam*. Let me tell you about the time I learned, with the fiery heat of a thousand suns, that online dating profiles aren’t always the most accurate portraits.

I met this guy, let's call him… "Chad." Chad's profile? Handsome, outdoorsy (pictures of him hiking! Perfect!), loves dogs (major bonus!). I was sold. We chatted online, everything was charming. We planned a date. I got all dressed up. I even bought a new lipstick (a deep red that I barely pull off).

Chad shows up… and he's nothing like his picture. Like, *nothing*. The "hiking pictures" apparently involved a very specific angle and a lot of filters. And the "loves dogs" thing? Turns out his dog was… well, let's just say he wasn't very fond of human contact. The whole date was awkward, uncomfortable, and ended with me quietly excusing myself to the bathroom to cry a little and eat the mints I brought. Lesson learned: Always, *always* insist on a video chat first. Maybe bring a friend. And possibly pepper spray (just in case, you know?). The tea? Trust your gut. And maybe don't wear red lipstick on a first date.

Okay, Fine. But What About… Money? It’s Stressful.

Oh, money. The root of all, or at least *some*, evil. And stress. Lots and lots of stress. Look, I'm no financial guru, I'm just a human trying to, you know, survive.

I struggle with money. I’m constantly battling the impulse to buy ALL THE THINGS. Retail therapy is REAL, people. What's helped, though, is budgeting. Not perfectly, mind you. More like a "sort of" budgeting. I use a budgeting app, and occasionally, I look at it. And sometimes, I close my eyes and pretend it doesn't exist. But having a vague idea of where my money goes is better than nothing.

Also? Side hustles. Find something you enjoy and can make a bit of money from. Like, I tried selling my old, worn-out shoes online… a little too aggressive, and perhaps not profitable. But what about making and selling those amazing cookies you know how to do? It's about small steps and avoiding the giant credit card bill at the end of the month, I'm not sure what I spend on. Try it, seriously.

What’s Your Biggest Regret? Be Honest.

Regrets… I have a few. Okay, a lot. But the biggest? Probably not taking that trip around the world when I had the chance.

Seriously, back in my twenties, I had this amazing opportunity. I was young, relatively debt-free, and had a good job that I could have left. But I was scared. Scared of the unknown, of being alone, of, you know, failing. So I chickened out and stayed put.

Now, I look back and think, "What was I *thinking*?!" I mean, I did get that promotion, and now I have a mortgage and a cat who needs a fancy kibble, but... That trip? Would have been amazing. Maybe my life would have been completely different. Maybe I would've met a hot travel photographer and eloped on a tropical island. Who knows?! The lesson? Don't let fear hold you back from the things that truly excite you. Don't be a chicken like me!

Do You Ever Get, Like, *Really* Sad? And How Do You Cope?

Honey, yes. Absolutely yes. I'm a human. Sadness is part of the deal. I think it's important to feel those feelings, even when they're messy and uncomfortable.

How do I cope? Well, it depends on the level of sadness. Sometimes, it's a good cry (think ugly crying, the works). Sometimes, it's eating a whole pizza while watching a cheesy rom-com. Sometimes, it’s a long walk in nature, breathing in the fresh air and trying to appreciate the beauty around me, even when everything feels bleak.

And sometimes? Sometimes, it's acknowledging that it's okay to not be okay. It's okay to feel sad. It's okay to ask for help. Talk to friends, family, a therapist. Do whatever you need to do to get through it. And know that it won't last forever. The sun *will* come up again. Even if,Unique Hotel Finds
